Proton gains Smart Energy Systems Subsidy from the Rotterdam government for the development of Ammonia Cracker

Proton Ventures gains Smart Energy Systems Subsidy (SES) from the Rotterdam government for the development of the Ammonia Cracker.

Proton Ventures, as one of the seven initiatives in Rotterdam, officially receives the financial contribution from the Smart Energy Systems Subsidy (SES) program.

Large-scale ammonia cracker

‘We received this subsidy because we contribute to a project in Rotterdam that makes energy  cleaner, smarter, and more efficient. Our innovation department is working on the technical and economic feasibility of a large-scale ammonia cracker. With this innovation, we want to make ammonia more attractive for the transport of hydrogen,’ says Cheng Liang, innovation engineers at Proton Ventures.

Energy transition in industry and the port

Alderman Chantal Zeegers (Climate, Building, and Living) is pleased with the new SES participants. “It is great to see that many projects in this fourth subsidy round focus on the energy transition in industry and the port. Major steps can be taken here when it comes to the energy transition. The elected entrepreneurs show that Rotterdam is working hard on smart, innovative energy systems. With the SES program, we want to give extra support to entrepreneurs who contribute to new solutions.”

About the Smart Energy Systems program

Since the beginning of 2021, the municipality of Rotterdam has set up the program to help smart and sustainable innovations further. During the previous three rounds, 19 innovations have already started working with the subsidy. The SES program now comprises a total of 26 innovation projects.

With the subsidy, the Municipality of Rotterdam supports companies in the further development of their innovation. Think of a feasibility study aimed at a follow-up investment, an experiment or a combination of these. The municipality wants to use this to scale up the number of innovations that successfully take the next step. In addition to the subsidy, the municipality facilitates the SES projects with a fixed point of contact and they gain access to a network of partners and knowledge. The SES program works closely with partners in the region.
