Ammonia market and technology
The ammonia market is changing. Agricultural practices and the energy and chemical industries are changing with an eye to the climate change mitigation targets that have been defined. Proton Ventures anticipated these developments in the early 2000s based on the wide range and versatility of uses for ammonia. Apart from the existing markets for ammonia, ammonia will be used increasingly as a fuel and hydrogen carrier. This will change market dynamics completely, resulting in a merger of the energy, agricultural and chemical markets into a single unified market.
Providing innovative and flexible solutions, Proton Ventures is willing and able to serve customers across all these markets with decentralised or centralised facility solutions.
Storage and handling
Proton Ventures BV designs and supplies pressurised and refrigerated ammonia terminals. Alternate liquid bulk commodities storage and handling facilities are also part of our portfolio. We comply with the most recent codes and standards, including the latest HSE standards.
If sectional work is required, we also design and transform (revamp) refrigeration systems, vaporisers, (un)loading facilities for railroad freight cars, ships and lorries, and aqueous ammonia scrubbers that convert all ammonia vent streams/off-gases into commercial-grade products, keeping ammonia emissions within allowed limits.
NOX & N2O removal
Nitrous oxide (N₂O), also known as laughing gas or nitrous, is a very potent greenhouse gas and even relatively small concentrations have a huge negative impact on the climate.
In collaboration with the leading catalyst provider Haldor Topsoe, Proton Ventures has developed an ammonia injection-based Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology that limits NOX an N2O emissions to comply with legal requirements and client specifications.
