Job summery:
Process Design and Engineering
- Lead development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs): Develop PFDs and P&IDs to define process flow and equipment layout based on client specifications and industry standards.
- Process Simulation and Modeling: Use simulation software (such as Aspen) to create models that predict process performance, optimize designs, and assess feasibility under various conditions.
- Specification of Equipment and Materials: Determine specifications for critical equipment, including reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, and separators, ensuring they meet both technical requirements and cost considerations.
Technical Evaluation and Feasibility Studies
- Conducting Feasibility Studies: Assess client project feasibility by analyzing factors like cost, safety, environmental impact, and regulatory compliance. This includes evaluating the technical and economic viability of proposed process designs.
- Design Optimization: Work to enhance existing designs or suggest alternative solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, or address client requirements more effectively.
- Risk Assessment and Safety Analysis: Perform HAZOP, FMEA, and other risk assessment studies to ensure design safety and identify potential hazards early in the design phase.
- Project Planning and Scheduling: Provide input to project plans & set timelines, and execute and often coordinate engineering resources to ensure project milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Interfacing with Clients: Communicate regularly with clients to gather requirements, provide updates, and ensure that designs align with their expectations. This includes managing client feedback and addressing design modifications.
- Coordination with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with disciplines like mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering, as well as procurement and construction, to integrate all elements of the design seamlessly.
Client-Specific Customization and Compliance
- Customizing Solutions: Tailor design solutions to meet specific client needs, which may involve adapting industry-standard designs or creating innovative approaches for unique challenges.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to relevant regulatory standards, such as ASME, API, OSHA, or industry-specific guidelines, particularly in industries like oil and gas, and chemicals (Ammonia).
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Researching New Technologies: Stay updated on the latest technologies, materials, and methodologies that could benefit client projects, such as new catalysts, advanced automation tools, or improved materials.
- Process Innovation: Identify and propose innovative solutions that offer cost savings, reduce environmental impact, or enhance the safety and efficiency of process designs.
- Benchmarking and Best Practices: Leverage industry best practices and benchmarks to ensure designs are competitive and meet the highest standards of efficiency and quality.
Detailed Engineering and Design Specifications
- Developing Detailed Design Documents: Create comprehensive engineering documents such as equipment lists, line lists, control philosophy, and operating manuals for use in both construction and operations phases.
- Material and Energy Balances: Conduct detailed material and energy balances to confirm design efficiency and ensure optimal resource use, providing accurate input to downstream engineering functions.
- Equipment and Instrumentation Specifications: Generate technical specifications for equipment and instrumentation, ensuring that all aspects are compatible with the overall process design and client needs.
Quality Assurance and Validation
- Design Review and Validation: Conduct design reviews to verify the integrity, feasibility, and accuracy of designs before finalization. This may involve peer reviews, client feedback sessions, and internal audits.
- Testing and Validation Protocols: Develop and oversee testing protocols to validate that designs will perform as expected in real-world conditions, including performance testing, stress testing, and simulation validation.
- Documentation for Quality Compliance: Maintain detailed records and documentation to ensure that designs meet internal quality standards and any relevant industry certifications.
Team Leadership and Mentorship
- Mentoring Junior Engineers: Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to junior engineers, helping them develop skills in process design, simulation, and client management.
- Technical Leadership: Act as the technical lead on projects from time to time, offering direction to cross-disciplinary teams and ensuring that all team members are aligned with project objectives and client requirements.
- Knowledge Sharing and Training: Organize training sessions or knowledge-sharing meetings to improve team skills in process design, compliance, or the use of specialized engineering software.
